R.E.A.L. 250gr bullets shot like garbage in my m/l today.

I stopped by the sporting goods store today and picked up a LEE 260gr. double cavity mold for my T/C 50 cal today. The bullets turned out good, I bore buttered them up and used anywhere from 60 to 90 gr. of powder in them and the bullets where hitting all over at 25 35 and 50 yards. Mostly shooting high and right. Round ball shoots pretty darned accurate in this gun and I am a bit dissapointed that it shoots kinda crappy with the bullets. Any tips or facts that I should know?

TUK what rifle were you shooting them out of? What brand of powder were you shooting? Not all rifles like the REAL conicals. For that reason I usually suggest you purchase some before you go and buy the mold. Also did you try a filler or wad between the powder?

What rifle and twist rate are we talking about here? I also thought the REAL bullet for .50 was 295gr.. At least the ones I shot were. I think we need a bit more info.

Thanks Cayugad I just ran off to check the ones I bought from BJ hills and you saved me getting the scale out. If he was shooting 250g isn't that a bit light for 1:48 rifles? The 250's should shoot well in a plains pistol?

It really depends on the rifle. Some of the 1:48 will shoot the lighter twist bullets and some will not. That's the problem with muzzlelaoders. You never know what the thing will shoot. You can only guess based on what other rifles are known to like.

My T/C is the Hawkens style of rifle. I think that it would be what you guys have been calling the Renegade since it looks just like the one in the picture that Sabotloader posted in his gravel pit thread. Its got the 28 inch barrel. I have been shooting with Pyrodex RS bp. I even tried some Goex FF and FFF and I think that the FFF shot a bit better than the FF did at short ranges. The REAL bullets did seem to fit just a bit loose, but not wobbly or anything, just looser than I am used to with the ball and patch.

Well I personally would take it back, get a refund, then purchase some on line and try them out. Then if they work for you buy the mold. I made that mistake with minnie ball and well I now own the molds... lets leave it at that.
