RE: On the ability of the 295 PB to penetrate
ORIGINAL: oldrookie Pglasgow, does this chart change much with aero points? The aero-tip increases the ballistics co-effiencient. The manufacturer claims the 295 hp has a BC of .168. This may be true, but I doubt it. I generally reduce the BC by .02, thus you will notice I used a BC of .150 in the charts I posted. According to the manufacturer, the aero-tip adds about .02 to the BC. So basically I'd use .168 as the B.C. The effect is to increase down range velocity and energy. See below. Now the tricky part. Does the aerotip slow down expansion? Maybe the aerotip will work fine at those velocities. All my analysis stems from field reports of the 295 hollowpoint. ![]() |
RE: On the ability of the 295 PB to penetrate
I'd have to say I'd lean towards the 405 PB if I were to hunt with them. I recently purchased a 20 pack of the hollowpointsfor $14.95 at Sportsman's Warehouse. I'm thinking about the loads below. At that cost, though, I can't shoot a bunch of them. So maybe they will hunt, or maybe not.

RE: On the ability of the 295 PB to penetrate
That was my bullet thatI took my first deer with....
Heart shot at 70 yards with 120 grains pyrodex. Complete pass through....deer dead in it's tracks. That's enough proof for me. So far I've had such good experiences with 300's on the range and in the field thatI call them my favorite. |
