antiquing brass

another TC hawken question. i like the look of brass on my TC hawken but its heck to keep polished. i just dont like the dull look. and alcohol and/or BP residue turns it a brownish color. the polished look is nice but i want it dark. i used birchwood caseys "brass black"...thats a time consuming PIA project and i cant get screw heads and small parts to take well. and it also seems to wear/rub off. ive done it 100 times and finally just gave up on it. it looks good..but too much work for it not to stay on.
i was just looking around and found solutions of acids that says you can get a range of colors from browns to grays and blacks. sounds like what i want and its only 5$ for a bottle of solution. sounds alot like brass black...but you can dip it or rub it on the brass. the longer and stronger you dilute the diffrent the color. sounds like what i want. i may order it and play with it.
just curious if anyones done anything like that. if not im sure ill be the guinie pig and ill be posting pics later..dont know when..im at college and only home on weekends and got alot of college stuff to keep me busy already...but the stock and brass are on my list thought i know the stocks going to take a long while if i do tung or linseed oil..
the TC hawken is a great looking gun on its own..dont get me wrong. i just like projects like this and like a "custom" look. thats why i wanted to do the stock and brass in the first place. and i hunt with a group of guys and the only guns we got are TC hawkens and renegades. i just like mine to look diffrent.

i asked the same question a few months back. One respose and something that worked great was... errr... Take the brass outside, place it on a piece of card board and...
.. And whip it out and pee on it and let it sit for a couple days and then add another coat or 2. The guy said it worked great but im not sick enough to do that so i just polish mine

If you just want it to look like old brass just be careful when cleaning to make sure you don't rub off the patena to bad when cleaning. Don't worry about getting your dirty hands on it while shooting it will speed the process a bit.
I always wait till it looks about perfect before I break down and drag out the brasso and polish it again
There is something about shinny brass that just won't let me continue the ageing

the actual solution http://www.whitechapel-ltd.com/Merch...y_Code=antique
pittsburghhunter..i tried that. it gets dull and i get brown streaks from either alcohol or BP residue...but i never got it to look good. heck id like the streaky truely antique look but its always just spotty and rubs right off. i dont have the time to sit and wait for it to build up lol. and in the mean time of waiting im like you...i like the polished look. not the "dirty" look.
