Thanks, It has been alot of years since I shot this Hawken. I got it for my birthdayin 1982 and then used it to kill my first deer in Indiana that December. Alot has changed since then. I still pick it up a couple times a month just to put it to my shoulder It was alot of fun to shoot.

Remember though...in this day and age of expensive technology...what worked then...WILL still work. The deer arent any tougher or smarter....so shoot that thing and have fun. I can second the opinion of the Dyno Nobels being excellent caps. I use them on both guns. Inline Traditions 50 cal and TC Hawken 54 cal.

I was cruzing through Green Mountains barrels website and I was wondering, could I buy a .32 cal barrel, or other caliber, for my .50 Hawken if the barrels are the same size, 15/16th flats?

The make a drop in barrel for the T/C Hawkins in .32 caliber. You simply pull the old barrel and put the new GMBin its place. Sometimes there is an adjustment you need to make to the barrel to make them fit, sometimes there is not an adjustment.

This stainless steel Green Mountain Barrel is the long range hunter model with 1:28 twist. It is in my T/C Renegade. It really is a good shooter.

I bought a green mountain for my .54 Hawken and the only thing I had to do was trim the underlug a little to clear the end of the stock (it was about 1/8 inch too long and the barrel would not go down into the stock. Got out the dremel tool with a cutoff disk and then it fit.

I bought a Musket cap nipple for my Hawkins and some caps.
I had more problems than I ever could have with just standard #11 caps.
I felt I would have had to rework the hammer to get the musket caps to work. They were also looser on the nipple so would have worried about them falling off while hunting.

Water swatter.. Here's a Colorado legal load that gives excellent results in my old ( early 70s vintage) T/C Hawken .50 cal...
Noexcuses 460 grain conical...80 grains loose 3F 777... #11 cap...
In my rifle this load is very accurate and knocks the hell out of deer and the one bull elk I shot with it.. I first tried 2f 777, but ignition seemed a tad slow, so I went to 3 F and that seems better...In any case, I have NEVER had a failure to fire while hunting with this rifle..One precaution I do take is to snap 2 or 3 caps to be sure the nipple is clear before loading..

I get the Saber Tooth Conicals at Midway USA or Midsouth shooter supply. One of them places.
You might also want to get some Maxiball as they also shoot well out of the Hawkins normally. I get them in bulk from Black Jack Hill Shooters Supply. http://www.blackjackhill.com/
