Which muzzleloader for under $200 for a newb?

You know, I got to thinking about it and I used to shoot (just for fun) my grandads old squirrel shooter smokepoles. These things where about 5 ft. long and he used flint and/or match heads to fire them off. Those used to scare the crap out of me, squeeze trigger, count to 5 and usually somewhere between 2 and 4 the gun would go off and you would waite for the smoke to clear to see where you hit. But every once and awhile nothing would happen and it was scary putting a new match head of piece of flint on there to try it again lol. Now because of this I really dont want a flintlock lol. Otherwise I would just ask my grandad for one of his old ml's to hunt with lol.

He may have a Lyman, they are made by interarms in Italy Lyman's are good guns...
Do you ever get down to Pullman/Moscow area at all? If you do give a shout and we could go out and shoot a few rounds from some different Ml's that I have and giveyou a better idea what you might be after...

Sabotloader I just might have to take you up on that offer. I dont get down that way too often, but then again I just dont usually have a good reason to. But shooting guns and making freinds is about as good a reason as any. Underclocked, thanks for the links.

I've bought more than one rifle and a few shot guns from Williams and they are nice people to do bussness with. The guns are what they say they are.
But they no longer carry BP.

Tuk have you tried the Shadle and Valley Walmart stores? I've bought guns from those stores in the last year. I spoke with a guy at the Shadle store and he said the the only stores that are going to stop selling firearms are the ones with low sales totals(like the Walmart at the Y)

There's nothing wrong with a good traditional style gun if you're so inclined. You can shoot the newer BP substitutes if you want to (stay with loose powder, not pellets), and there are lots of all lead bullets to choose from, too. I'd agree with sabotloader concerning the .54 - you'll have a larger chunk of lead going downrange for extra penetration.
Good Luck and have fun.
