Default GM 58cal barrel instead of flinter

I had to save some money so I did not get the 54cal flinter I wanted. I decided I might get a GM 58cal for my Renegade. It will be cheaper and really good. I know with a 280gr RB and 120gr FFG or around in there that rifle would mean business in the Rocky Mountains. What do you all think?

I wouldn't want to an elk in the path of one your .58 roundballs. When do you plan to order?. If you get a flinter barrel, maybe you could find a good lock for it and have the .58 flinter you want. Have you thought of maybe bidding on some locks at ebay or anything like that before buying the barrel? Good luck with it and lets us know when you get it.

I at one time thought on a 58 flinter but I do have a 54 flinter that favors heavy charge of goex 3F 95 grains don't think the game when hit will no the difference was that a54 or 58 ball??
I would have purchase the GM barrel but the 32" barrel add extra weight that I am not crazy about even compared to a 28" barrel you can feel the difference.

It sure would! Or anyplace else..As a matter of fact, I'd use it in Africa too, for everything!! but elephant, rhino, hippo, andCape Buffalo..... for these four, I'd change to a 530-grain Minie ball, with the same powder charge!

The .58 will do fine. It's a shame you can't have both. Maybe Santa will be kind.

I will have both eventually! I think when I get a flinter it will be a smoothbore where I could shoot shot and roundball out of it. Or maybe it will be a 36cal rifle. I am planning on ordering it in January. Midway USA has it for $154 but they just ran out of stock and said they will have them in by January 9th. I would get it from Track but they sell for $178. I called and asked if they would do a price match but the guy said Midway doese not have GM barrels. He said they dont play that gameand he hung up on me.
