Been thinking of redeeming some points on the Apex. Seeing the MSRP at $399, It occurs to me that the Apex isn't beingmarketed as a low end muzzleloader. For those who own the APEX, I would like to know your general level of satisfaction, its feel and handling, its ease for cleaning, dependability, and trigger characteristics. Also, whether you feel the level of quality would justify the regular price as compared to other rifles in the same price range.
The other question is Stainless. Stainless is just a few dollars more. I kinda figured I'd choose Stainless if I get one. But is there any reason, other than cost, to go with a blued barrel?Seems likeposts complaining of 777 crud ring, they are typically stainless barrels. Does anyone have any opinions on that subject? Also any other experiences or opinions about benefits the blue barrel might provide, if any, would be welcome.

I dont own one so I aint much help but alot of the reviews i have read have been good. I have looked at one and it seems to be a well built muzzleloader. Bass pro has them pretty cheap http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=48924&hvarTarget=sea rch&hvarAID=&cmCat=3400023

To adderss your other question, I would go with the stainless. They are much easier to clean. I have a nef heritage with a stainles barrel and I haven't had a problem with the crud ring. I hope this helps a little.

cabelas is better to deal with and cheaper: Still waiting for a few deals to go through with car parts so i can buy mine while they still are cheap. I own the x-150 now but hope to add the Apex to the family tree. I also noticed that the Apex actually allows you to use a gloved hand, which is always needed during a fall hunt.

F. G. ,
Its a done deal. I bought it with my Cabelas points and should arrive around the 19th. I may actully hunt with it in Oklahoma while visiting my folks there! First projectiles I'm testing will be 375 SSB's. Hope they work well. Also gonna get a bushnell 3X9 for her with BDC. I hope to lob 250 yardswith 375 or 435 SSB's. Maybe dreaming, but the journey is always more rewarding than the destination.
Guess you can now call me a fellow Winchester owner (which Isupect will please you immensely).

Wimuzzleman,
Will do. I do hope I'm happy with it. I had planned to get one the Z-5's at Walmart if they got under $230, but they sold out, (everywhere),at $249. I couldn't have used my cabelas points at Walmart, so maybe I'll get the SS barrel and do as well with the APEX. I won't get it until the 19th but will post results when I begin taking it to the range.

Brother!! lol.. You'll enjoy it im sure. Seeing how you will be using sabots, im sure u'll get some great groups. I havnt found a review yet with someone getting worse than 1" groups @ 100 yards. The best ive found was a guy with a 3-9 nikon getting 3/4" groups at 100. He was tickled ****less. Hopefully i'll beable to join you and get an Apex. Im ordering the camo/SS barrel and then buy some Tru glow sights. What made you go with the Apex anyways? They look like they use the x-150 stock with a slight mod for the drop breech. Very sturdy rifles.

I think Dmurphy317's hands on comments about the APEX convinced me. These were his comments:
Then it being 50% offits regular sales price, being able totake another $20off that price, and finally being able to use my already stored up cabelaspoints for the rest, well, I just figured I couldn't screw up buying it.
I think Dmurphy317's hands on comments about the APEX convinced me. These were his comments:
Both the Omega and the Apex are good guns. I ended up going with the Apex for my son. We had checked both out and the feel of the Apex was better in both our opinions. I could not tell enough difference in the fit and finish to justify the much higher price. The palm swell on the stock grip of the Apex is nice and more cofortable in the hand and the gun came up to the cheek with the sights right where they needed to be, the Omega sights were too low and the gun needed to be raised to line them up (at least for my son and I). I like the fact that the Apex has 2 recoil lugs, that will make it easy to float the barrel if needed and the quality is better than other BPI products as far as the fit goes. We ended up getting a lightly used camo/SS version for $175, I wish I had waited for this sale as I could have gotten a new one for just a little more but oh well, I still got a good deal and it shot under 4" groups at 200 yards with the first load I tried.
