Default I did it...

Well guys I have purchased my first ever ML i can't wait to get out and sight it in being whitetail season starts wednesday. I went out and looked at several differant models and brands. I was looking for a decent entry level ML since this is my first one. I went out looking to buy a traditions yukon but when i got there i just didn't like the way it felt to me. Also the guy at Dicks showed me how the breech block can just fall out if turned upside down. Now when you look at it on the website it looks very nice but in person not so nice now i am not bashing anyone who owns this gun and maybe the sales man didn't know what he was talikng about but i did not take my chances, instead i purchased a CVA Wolf for the same price just felt a little better to me and looked better made plus i like the break open action.

Now for everyone who has been wondering if there are any differances between the Yukon amd the Remington Genisis there is some big differances. The Remington actually feels like a very well made rifle. The swing open breech is awsome but might get ion the way of a scope. I wish i could of had the money to get one of them but chistmas is around the corner and the guys with kids no what i mean.

Does anyone else on this form have a CVA Wolf if so how do you like it and what do you shoot out of it?

Hey dbc i've got a Wolf. Bought it because the optima was alittle out of my price range. Shoots great. Some of the guys in the forum suggested tc cheap shots and xtp 240s both produce great groups at 100 yds with2 50gr.pellets of pyrodex. I'vealso been shooting 295gr. powerbelts withthe 3 50gr. pellets. This kicks like hell but performs pretty well out to 150yds. My younger brother shoots 245 gr. powerbeltswith2 pyrodex pellets and swears by it. Thats justto give yaafew ideas.Definately put a scope on it if your state will allow. experiment with loads and let me know what ya find.

Congrats on your first ML. 240 gr.Cheapshots make a good hunting load too. Also try some300 gr.Mag Sabots if you can find them. If not, then maybe someShockwaves. Pyrodex and 777are the two best selling sub-powders.I recommend Pyrodex in pellets -- 777 in loose powder.

Good for you. I think you'll be much happier with the wolf. Start out with a 245 grain powerbelt and 90 grains pyrodex RS. That should be a deadly load. Once you work out to 100 yards, load it with 120 grains pyrodex RS and see if your shots moves up any. If its around 2" high a 100, that should be close to dead on at 150 yards. Enjoy your new rifle and keep the updates posted!

I have a Wolf also and I really like it, only had it about a year. I'm going to be useing it for both the regular gun and the ML seasons this year. I'll be shooting either 100gr American Pioneer or T777 pushing 300gr Barnes expander MZ. I don't have much info on shot groups but I've been hitting small pop bottles at 50yds and right now thats good enogh for me as most of my shots will be that or less.
Good luck with the Wolf, let us know how it works for ya

Well i took out the Wolf today for the first time my first shot was at 50 yards with 245 grain powerbelts and 100 gr of 777 and the shot was dead center using open sights. Shot three more at 50 yards and had 1 inch groups. Moved back to 100 yards and my groups opend up a little to 2 in good enough for me opening day is Wednesday i cant wait.

Very good, its nice not to have to fiddle around with different bullets/ powders to get on target. I wouldnt complain about 2" groups, Especially if you're not shooting off a bench. Buy some 295's and see how they shoot. Maybe you can tighten up the pattern a bit. Other than that, just give her a good bath after you are done shooting. I use my bore brush the clean out the breech plug area and then use rubbing alcohol in a bottle and spray it all in there and flush it out. Enjoy the rifle.
