Default APP vs. Shockeys Gold

Can anyone out there tell me if there is a noticible difference between APP and Shockeys Gold.I bought a can of APP 3f today. There was only $2.00 difference in price.I have been using 777 3f. Should I expect a drastic difference in performance?

As for whether APP or Shocky Gold will be different, one is filtered more then the other so the grain size are more uniform as I was explained. While they will probably shoot the same I can not confirm that through testing. I used to shoot a lot of Pyrodex RS then I went to Pyrodex Select which is filtered RS. I never found that much advantage of the select over the RS. So it will be interesting to see if Shocky Gold is "better" then APP.

I suspect your performance will change from APP to Triple Se7en though, only because Triple Se7en is 15% stronger in loose form then APP. You might have to up the powder charge of APP to get the same performance as that of the Triple Se7en. Also your rifle might not like APP. Only time will tell.

I have been doing some testing since Gold is supposed to be vary similar.
So far my results don't show it that way,I find both in granule size and speed of burning Gold FF acts about like APP FFF and so far my best group is 2inches while APP-FF will shoot under an inch if I don't screw it up.
I wish I could get it to shoot as it is readily available here while I have a hard time getting APP. Each gun is different so you will have to try it to find out My chrony puts it about in the middle between 777-FF and RS
good luck and good shooting. Lee
