Here's what shoots well out of my .45 caliberCVA Hunterbolt Mag: 250 PRB QT, 200 grain Hornady SST. Both will handle whitetails within the distances you expect to be shooting or further for that matter. Try 100 grains of 777 and you may have a load that will work for your rifle.

For what ever reason nobody likes the Barnes Sabot. In 3 different of my guns the barnes is #1. I have used power belts in Colorado with good success, due to full bore ammo rule.

My guns are .50s but I think barnes are good in any size.

A note on .45s. Seems for what ever reason to be less forgiveing than 50s, kind of picky about what they shoot. I think it is the speed, many willl disagree but drive a car 55mph then 155 at what speed will little things make the most difference.

When .45 sabots first came out they were tearing up the sabot when shot with three pellets of pyro, causing accuracy problems.

The Barnes MZ 250 shoots great out of my .50 caliber and is my best bullet out of that barrel. I tried the 175 gr. out of my .45 and couldn't get any grouping whatsoever. I am of the opinion that a .45 is best served with a heavier longer bullet whether it be a sabot or conical. Sectional density is the name of the game when you can't shoot at smokeless powder velocities.

Powerbelt makes a 300 gr. in their platinum series for the 45. A buddy of mine tried them the other week out of his knight and was very please with the results.
