I like those electronic muffs. Can you hear really well out of them? That is really cool how it blocks out noises you don't want to hear but will let in other noises. I might look as some.

I can hear well out of mine. They actually let me hear better because mine are stereo with 2 mics on them. I can hear what people are saying real clear from about 25 yards away. You can even turn up the volume to hear even better. Bought my dad and brother a set and they like them. This is why so many use the smallwalkers game ear in the woods but i cant afford them yet. They allow you to hear game approaching better but block the harmful load noises with firearms. They would be good for duck or pheasant hunting where you may be shooting over and over. I am going to do anything it takes to save the hearing that I have left because you can never get it back.

Because I like my hearing and since I'de like to keep it I were Peltore Tactical 6-s' while hunting. Took a big gobbler this spring season with them and you could not only hear with them, you could hear better then normal. For the range I just use these muffs with a set of foamies.

Also no the tree's don't "absorb" enough sound to make a gun shot safe on ears firing unprotected.

My thoughts exactly. The blast is right there only inches away from your ears depending on what you are shooting. The sound is getting to your ears before the trees and surroundings. They would only mask the sound from someone farther away from you.
