RE: For all Bore Butter Users
Flash rust.......have to patch dry the boreimmediately after coming out of the hot water rinse.
Then let it lay for 5 minutes for the residual heat to bone dry the bore...then plaster the borebutter to it...3-4 applications of a lube patch with BB heavily spread all over it with a putty knife or popcicle stick, etc. |

I think I just could not make myself put that much bore butter into the barrel. |
RE: For all Bore Butter Users
is it necessary to use HOT WATER.i did not for 35 years and no problems. The reason I choose to do this is because I use bore butter lube and want no buildup in the bore what-so-ever...and my decisionto usesteaming hot water can best be described with this analogy of bore butter on the walls of a bore, to egg residue on a breakfastplate: If you hold a breakfast plate under a cold water faucet to rinse of the egg residue, it sits right there clingling to the plate for ever; But if you hold it under a steaming hot water faucet, the egg residue melts and slides completely off the plate, add a drop of dishwashing detergent and the plate issqueaky clean. If it's not 100% removed after each use...100%...there will be leftover material which is the beginning of 'buildup'...and at some point buildup willaffect accuracy and/or trap moisture or contamination in the bore which will lead to rust or corrosion...so I take my barrels back to the bare raw metal after each use, and use steaming hot soapy water to do so.....my .02 cents. |
RE: For all Bore Butter Users
i never shot a lot in those 35 years,so maybe thats why i never had build -up. all my practice was behind shoulder of buck,ha.but, i do feel ,as you that HOT water will cause RUST.like you say, if not dried right away,oh boy.i bet many are getting rust from this and not bore butter. i know that for fact because i never got rust in 35 years until i used ,HOT WATER.

RE: For all Bore Butter Users
I don't think I will use bore butter any more. If using a patched roundball the lube on the patch will prevent fowling enough.

RE: For all Bore Butter Users
you can use bore butter as your patch lube and it will work just fine.
