RE: For all Bore Butter Users
ORIGINAL: Sharp Shooter The reason I don't use 13 is because alot of people have problems with it causing flash rust. |

Do not know if it carries any weight but I use dampened patches of just plain old windex, it is an excellent cleaner and works well for me. Do not use wet patches just damp almost like a spit patch. |
RE: For all Bore Butter Users
All I clean my muzzle loader with - at home or at the range - is the clear Windex "Multi Task" with vinegar in it. Works fine. I will also run a quick patch after a final clean down the bore that is saturated with bore butter, and only use bore butter as a lubricant.

RE: For all Bore Butter Users
I once made a solvent (still have some) and it had water, venigar, and a little lemon juice in it. I will be using it at the range on saturday but I hope it doese not effect the bore butter. Even if it doese my seasoned RB patches should season it up again right?

It really shouldn't if you applied the BB correctly, or whatI think is correctly,it is in the pores of the metal and bit of it will be released each time you shoot and create heat. You also could use "Natural Lube 1000" as a bore swab if you chose to. That is what I used when I first started out. It is an all natural product that a lot of old timers use. Again using dampened patches not wet patches and then dry swab with a clean patch to get the excess out... do not over do it or you contaminate your next powder load and or your breech area... a little bit goes along ways. |
RE: For all Bore Butter Users
ORIGINAL: Sharp Shooter What cleaner do you use to swab your barrel at the range when using bore butter? I know you can not use a petroleum base because it will break down the bore butter. I heard that the No. 13 bore cleaner will cause flash rust. Would the citric acids in cabelas all natural citrus solvent break it down or should I be fine using that. It is a good solvent but I don't know if the acids will effect the bore butter. I am sure there isn'tthat much citric acid in the solvent. What do you all think or use? |
RE: For all Bore Butter Users
Try plain old rubbing alcohol.

I useTC's #13and love it. It cleans everything real well. I just make sure I run a couple of dry patches after it when at the range. It seems todissolve all fouling away. I use it on all parts of my rifles for cleaning. I use Traditionspresoaked patches in wonder lube 1000 plus to protect and season my bores.
