Default Savage anyone?

I'm kindly thinking of going smokeless. I have a few questions about the Savages.

1. Do you need a scale or will the Lee dippers work well enough?

2. What is the base center dimension?

3. Does scope mounting present any problems?

4. Is there a powder/bullet combo that seems to work well across the board?

5. What in tar-nation is a vent liner? Do they "wear out" often?

Any info about these rifles would be muchly appreciated.

The scale is best but I know a few guys using AA5744 with dippers.

No idea to these. I don't own one yet.

250 XTP MMP short black sabot or 300 XTP with the same sabot. Powder wise I hear about different charges.

5. What in tar-nation is a vent liner? Do they "wear out" often?
It is a removeable flash hole in the muzzle end of the breechplug. Every 40 or 50 shots they need to be replaced.

Any info about these rifles would be muchly appreciated.
I don't have one but I am planning to get one.

You might try contacting Randy Wakeman http://members.aol.com/randymagic/ballltd.htm reference a Savage Rifle and any questions you may have about them. Also http://modernmuzzleloader.comis a forum where many Savage owners gather. The members there are more then willing to answer and address your questions and concerns on Savages and most other modern muzzleloaders. You could join there as well, and gather information and contacts.

Michigan does not allow smokeless during muzzleloading season. Some states have even stricter rules. Make sure Louisiana supports it's use -- otherwise you may pouring a blackpowder/substitute down the muzzle of that Savage.

Wolfhound76

Thanks for your help.

cayugad

I'll check out the links you provided.

While I do live in LA, I hunt in Arkansas. Smokeless is legal there. The only requirement the on a ml is that they load from the front end. For the states where the Savage is not legal,I'll usemy Knight LK93or TC Renagade.

Thanks to all for the info.
