Default The Ultra Mag with various projectiles

Today I was determined to sight in the new scope on the White Ultra Mag .504. I did my shooting from the 25 yard line. It was in the high 40's with a very strong wind. I had some problems with the new target stand and the wind, but stuck with it.

I was shooting 70 grains of Triple Se7en 3f powder, two 1/16th fiber wads, and the 460 grain No Excuse Conical.

My first shot showed me where the scope was hitting, so I made my first adjustment. I then fired #2-#4 shot and was satisfied somewhat. I made a slight adjustment, and then fired for each corner. Shot #7 was the winds fault. Just as I was about to squeeze off, the target bowed in the wind.

Over all I was pleased with the way the scope handles on the rifle and the easy of aiming. I was shooting off 4X. At no time did I swab the barrel for all eight shots.

After knowing the scope was on.. I then wanted to see how the White Rifle did with sabots. After Sabotloader's shooting yesterday with his, I was most impressed and wanted to see for myself.

#1 .458 Hornady 300 grain HP with 100 grains Triple Se7en 2f. The shot close to the bull was me making an adjustment.

#2.452 Hornady XTP with 100 grains of Triple Se7en 2f.

#3 .458 405 grain Remington FP with 90 grains Triple Se7en 2f. I was real impressed with the group this projectile shot. My first three shots was just a hole in the target so I fired five more for effect.

#4 .451 375 grain Buffalo Bullet SSB with 90 grain Triple Se7en 2f. Again, very pleased with the way these shot.

#5.400 200 grain Thompson Center Shockwave with 110 grain Triple Se7en 2f. I was really surprised how well the White shot these light bullets. That's a four shot group and actually the one out of the main group could have been me or the wind. I was trying to time my squeeze between the wind gusts when shooting these targets.

On all the sabots, the point of aim was dead center bull...

I should add, that the only time the rifle was swabbed was between changing brands of projectiles. I never swabbed the barrel when shooting any one projectile. It loaded all eight of the 405 grain as easy as the first..

I like this rifle with the #11 cap ignition. Very little fowling. And there was absolutly no crud ring in the breech of this rifle that I could feel when loading or swabbing the barrel. Why, I have no idea.

So what projectile do you think you might shoot out of it? Glad you like your new rifle.

This will be my conical shooter. When I want to throw big chunks of lead around. Although the way it shoots sabots, it could do it all in my book... so far.

cayugad

I am stuck doing homework today so I did not get any shooting in...

All I can say is we got a great gun! - I am becoming more impressed with the gun all the time - I really do wish I had found this a couple of months ago - might have saved me a few bucks.

I really think your shooting today validates my shooting yesterday, even when Underclocked says we were shooting those puny plastic thingy majigs... Doc White probably would agree either. But I do have to give Doc credit he built one hell of a rifle...

After shooting the sabots today I have a feeling that the other inlines might not get all that much shooting in. Another thing that impresses me is how well the Warne Rings are working. Underclocked was right on the money when he recommended them to me. I have had them off and on a number of times and they come back within 1/4 - 1/2 inch of where they were.

Those 405 grain Remington FP really thump down range... I think they would make a good elk load since they are made for the 45/70 government rifle.

You guys have actually got me considering putting plastic down a White barrel (even though that is almost a sin ). I'll admit to owning a few hundred sabots but they are all getting old from just sitting outthere.

Now, show sum class an make yersef an Undertube!

I'll have you know my duct tape space blanket scope cover worked perfect today. When I cleaned the rifle I popped the scope off, and the fowling wiped right off the duce tape as easy as could be. I wiped the rest of the scope off and then layed a thin coat of gun oil on the exposed parts and was good to go. That thing your talking about sounds like a pain. You'd have to remove that to cap the rifle right?

I was not swabbing between shots ... even on the sabots and was loading so fast I heated up the barrel. I wanted to see what effect it would have on accuracy. Boy that rifle loads sabots sweet. Two fingers to set that sabot on the charge, and not once didI have to use my short starter to get the ball rolling. Sure is not Black Diamond XR... No short starter, no shoot!!

Sounds like a good rifle. I don't think I will ever own an inline. I like the tradition of the traditionals. I think it makes a hunt a little more hard and fun. An inline is too much like a modern centerfire to me. That is just my opinion. If I were to ever own an inline (NEVER WILL I) I would choose that rifle. Good luck with it.
