Default Urgent, Need Help with ML

I won't give you the whole story as it is long, so I will bring you to today. Basically, I can not get this gun to group. I am on my second gun, rings and scope but the results are the same. Shots all over the paper. I am convinced after months of trial and error (and new equipment) that the problem must be in the bullet or powder, but I am looking for advice.

Gun is a CVA MagBolt 150 with a high quality scope (burris signature $400) and Weaver base/rings. I am using Powerbelt 295 grain, 50 cal copper head bullets with 100 gr Pyrodex Pellets. I am loading with all the right equipment to eliminate damage to hollow point and clean gun between every shot, despite book saying it isn't necessary.

I can't get the gun to group and shots are anywhere from high to low primarily, but some left and right.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as season is here.

I have a friend of mine that used that same bullet in his CVA last year and he could not get them to group either he went through like 2 boxes. I suggest you switch your bullets and Try the hornady XTP 240 grain with the sabbots i have excellent luck with those. good luck Hunting!

I'd stop cleaning between every shot.
Try shooting 2 fouling shots and then shoot 5 in a row (without cleaning) and see what that 5 shot group looks like. In other words, waste the first 2 just to foul the barrel, then shoot a 5 shot group.
See what happens.

Tealboy, a quick question. Are you telling us that you tried a completely new gun and scope before experimenting with bullets and powder loads? From my shooting experiences I have found that the gun is usualy not the problem you just need to experiment with different bullets and powder charges. Every gun is going to be a little different and shoot one bullet and powder combination better or worse than another. stick with the same gun and use your money to go out and buy six different kinds of bullets (varying grains and makes) along with powder and go to work.

You have to experiment with diferent bullets and different powders,no two guns shoot the same( at least in my years of shooting have never seen it happen)Try different bullet weights also that makes a big difference too.Every time you try something different make notes, because sometimes it takes so many different tries to find what you are looking for,and depending on how accurate you want it to shoot.

1. Try loose powder.
2. DON'T clean between shots.
3. Make sure you seat each bullet with EXACTLY thew same pressure on the bullet.
4. Try different bullets, including heavier/lighter weight Power Belts, and other kinds of conicals, like TC Maxi-hunters and Lee R.E.A.L.'s, as well as saboted kinds.

Keep yore powder dry!!

I was determined to shoot Powerbelts and last year tried the 295 gr in my Black Knight. Couldn't keep bullets in a group less that 5" at ~100 yards. I gave up and shot the old faithful Knight 260 gr sabots, though not glamorous shot well and killed all that I hit them with.
This year, my dealer told me to try the heavier 348 gr Powerbelt, that it would shoot better from being a "longer" heavier bullet. Though I thought this was "horse hockey", I tried it. Man, was I impressed! I'm almost touching bullet holes at over 100 yards (100gr of the new "stick" Clean Shot rename). May not work for you, but as group consensus suggests, vary your bullets and powder until you find one that will shoot.
