Default 2f or 3f APP?

I'm thinking of picking up some AAP and I've heard some folks like the 2f and others use the 3f. I plan on shooting primarily 250-300gr sabots in an omega.

Any suggestions on which granulation to try?

Thanks in advance.

I just started playing around with the Jim Shockey Gold powder, both 2F and 3F, in the past couple of months. I got over 2300 fps with 110 grains of 3F behind a 200 grain 50/40 Shockwave - so I would suspect this is pretty close to a full throttle load. Musket cap didn't look too bad, though. Might be able to go up to 120 grains. I was personally happy with the velocity and accuracy (MOA), so I'm probably not going to rock the boat on this load.

I also tried 130 grains of 2F with a 250 Shockwave, and got speeds in the upper 2200 range. In the latter case, the musket cap was significantly deformed - about the same as what it normally looks like with three Pyrodex pellets (150 grain); so between thatand the what the chronograph said, I would not want to tryto push this one any faster.

No personal experience here, but everything I've read points toward the FFFg being the better choice in any of the APPs.

If you want your grains to resemble rock salt --then decide that youdo not wantyour APP FFtopour out of most powder flasks you own -because the granulesbeing so huge, then the FF is the powder for you.

To me, it's a no-brainer selecting the FFF. It has shown a tad more horsepower also in my findings.

Thanks for the head's up on the "rock salt". I knew I had read some opinions on one vs the other. I think I'll go with the 3f.

And the best part is that I got my answer before the end of the day so I can stop on the way home.

Well the grains are large but my results are excellant for heavy loads with FF I do use FFF in my rugar and my 45 Hawken also with excellant results; i don't have a pressure rig but my strain gage tells me I get more velocity and less pressure than 777. I like heavy loads and I could care less about the size of the grains [they are about twice as big as FF black] if they shoot tight groups. Lee

That's the best move Tom! Opens up the avenue to also using that powder with a sidelock or two. Sidelock ignition will be much more consistent/instant using the FFF in a variety of traditional-looking MLs.
