Encore Recoil Test
#1
I recently acquired a T/C Encore in .300 Winchester Magnum. After a couple of break in shots, it seemed that this gun did not havemuch recoil. Started to wonder if I was getting tougher in my old age . . . . .
Today, I went to the range with four .300 Win Mags: The T/C, a Remington SPS, an older Remington 700 BDL, and a Ruger 77 All Weather SS. The overall weight of the rifles was very close between the T/C and both Remingtons. Ruger was ahalf pound lighter. Fired with the same load; the T/C was slightly milder than the SPS, which was a little milder than the 700 BDL - and all were ***** cats compared to the Ruger (ouch).
My point is that the stock design of the T/C encore (SS Camo Synthetic) appears to be a very good one to deal with heavy recoil -as in magnum muzzleloading charges. It's recoil pad is not as good as the Remington SPS and the weight of the gun is almost identical. It is rare to find a .300 Winchester that is relatively pleasant to shoot - nice job, T/C.

I just got my chrono back tonight after I accidently blew it away with a sabot MZ round back in February. Not sure. The T/C has a 26" barrel. The SPS is 26". BDL is 24", as is the Ruger. Wouldn't expect there is much difference in speed.

The T/C barrel is as long as any so it should have as high a MV as any. If themuzzle velocity were less it would explain at least some of the lesser recoil. However, it would be a bad thing as the only explanation would be bore problems.

I can tell by how this barrel feels when cleaning it during break inthat there is nothing wrong with the T/C barrel. I do think there is something to their stock design. Can't wait to try the new Pro Hunter model - slated to come out in about a month. Has a whole bunch of Navcom goodies built into the stock to further reduce recoil. Should be a stellar MZ rifle.

I'm sure nothing is wrong with your barrel. Nonetheless, I could not have helped but to double check with a chrono if one were available. Hope you have a lot of fun with it

Roskoe, I think it is more about fitforthe individual shooter. While I don't doubt your results at all, the next guy may have a different experience. My Encore muzzleloader will kick the yard dog poop out of you with a load that is easily handled in a White. The Knight Elite also handles recoil well with the heavy conical loads I like to shoot. Even the Huntsman seems to handle recoil better than my Encore.
That doesn't mean I don't like the Encore (or my G2 but WATCH OUT there!
). I truly like both rifles but find neither of them to be comfortable with heavy loads. CFbarrels might be a different story for me but doubt I ever know.
