What is the Knight American?
We have a used one at a local gunshop that looks to be unfired or fired very little. It is a light handy rifle that looks like it needs some kind of disc to fire it has a bolt/hammer you pull out the back of the receiver and has a plastic stock. It had a $150 sticker on it.
Anyone have any history on this rifle?

They are the same basic design as the Wolverine. Most of them have a 22" Green Mountain Barrel and are actually excellent shooting rifles. They use a #11 cap and have a pull cock striker system. But for a $150 dollars for a used one, that's a little steep. I was seeing them being sold new for $99.00 and with some of the other deals on Knight rifles right now, I would kick another $50.00 to that and have a stainless steel Knight Disc Elite.

Cayugad,
Wasn't the American Knight the cheep version (introductory level)of the Wolverine?
I remember the sights beingof lesser quality and the American Knight had a different stock than the Wolverine. Other than that I can't think of any differences.
$150 is steep....buy the 54 Scout instead! LOL

RE: What is the Knight American?
I purchased one of these about 4 yrs. ago at the
local Walmart for $79.95. Mine is 50cal. bolt action
that you pull back to cock then it fires a # 11 cap.
I have never really found any bullet/powder combo
that would group well enough for me to be confident
enough to hunt with it. In my opinion $150.00 is
way to high for the gun. It's probably worth half
that But my opnion is most definately tainted
because of the time; trouble ; not to mention, the
money I've spent, to get this thing to group.

About what I thought the gun doesn't look that well made as most Knights I have seen and as stated had some cheap sights on it. I had just never seen one before. Most Knights I see have more "Gravatas" in their looks this thing looked like a no-name import.
It does look well made but different from any Knight I have seen.

Have you ever tried loading a simple load like 80 grains of Goex 2f and a 240 grain XTP? the reason I ask that is in my Wolverine LK-II, which is so similar other then the sights to your American Knight, will shoot excellent groups with that load. And that makes an excellent deer load from reports I read. I think a lot of times people try to push projectiles too hard. When that does not work, I often times decrease the powder charge instead of increase.
I just find it strange that a Knight rifle will not shoot well. I never ran into one yet that did not have some load that would not shoot well out of them, although I do not doubt you. There are always those rifles out there that simply will not shoot. I would have sent it back to Knight if I were in your shoes.

RE: What is the Knight American?
This is actually the only black powder I own and I bought it about
6 years ago. I think I might have paid $150 brand new, but that
would be a stretch. I have a scope on mine and I converted
the #11 to a 209.
I shoot a Powerbelt 295 with 95 grains of Goex ffG and my longest
shot to date (actually measured) was 125 yds. A doe that field
dressed at 110 lbs. Shot went through shoulder and I removed it
from underneath skin on opposite shoulder. Doe traveled all of
20 yds.
I have had awesome luck with this gun and awesome accuracy!

RE: What is the Knight American?
I have heard that they are great shooters. I know a person that has one that shoots ball-ets out of it and kills a deer every year. The American Knights are good shooters from most of the posts I have read. Due to their size, they make an excellent stalking brush rifle.

American Knight
The American Knight is a lot of muzzle loader for the money. It has a patented double safety system, Green Mountain rifle barrel, fiber optic front sight, and the new ultra-reliable Full Plastic Jacket Ignition system which uses a #209 shotgun primer for hotter ignition and superior performance in foul weather. The new solid composite gun stock allows the American Knight to shoot a magnum load of up to 150 grains of Pyrodex pellets.
