Default Heavy Conicals In 1-28" Twist Barrels

How do heavy conicals shoot in a1-28" twist GM 54cal Barrels? How do you think the 535gr No Excuses or Colorado conical would shoot?

That's a hard question to answer. All barrels are a mystery to themselves. What shoots good in one rifle might not shoot good in another. I've never shot the big .54 caliber conicals in a fast twist barrel as I do not own one. In the .50 caliber fast twist barrels, I have shot 460 & 533 grain conicals out of them. They both did real well, but you can not put large powder charges behind them.

A 1:28 twist should handle up to 680 grains in a .54 caliber. 535 grainsis ideal in a 1:37 twist barrel, at least according to http://mountainmolds.com .

You can go there and test available weights and see therecommended twist for that weight. I am of a mind to think that lighter weights are OK in faster twist barrels, they'll just be spinning faster than necessary and the twist won't be ideal.
