APP Question
#1
I have a question about APP. You can get those 100gr pre measured loads. How many of those pre measured loads come in the bottle? I thought something like a 100. That would be a good buy if you think about it. My pyrodex select is the same price as that. Then you could get the loose powder and see if your rifle would like 100gr of that stuff. If so, then you could get the pre measured next time and shoot those. Then on you could just get loose and re-fill the plastic tubes. How do you like APP? I was thinking about trying it with a R.E.A.L. conical since it is not lubed.

The pre measured loads come in stick form. Since you shoot a T/C Renegade with a #11 cap igntion I would not advise you try pellets as in Pyrodex and Triple Se7en, orsticks. Your rifle is not really designed to shoot them. Even though they will ocassionally go off, they are not going to be as consistant as loose powder for you. If you can change that rifle over to a 209 ignition, then you might consider it. Until then, use the kind of powder that is recommended in the manual for your rifle. If you wish to shoot loose American Pioneer Powder, then weigh it out as you would Goex or Pyrodex.

App sells Pre measured loads in the form of loose powder. They come in little plastic tubes. They are in 100gr. In CO you can NOT use pellets. Here is a link.

That's really interesting, they want $18.99 for 25 premeasured 100 grain loads. That would put them on an equal value to loose basis of $56.97 a pound for the premeasured figuring seventy five loads...to $19.99 for a pound of loose powder. If you figure a poundof powder gives 70 shots. Even if you figure 65 shots per loose pound of powder because of spillage, your paying .3075 cents per shot or .31 cents for loose powderper shot compared to .7596 cents or .76 cents a shot for the premeasured. Makes the old plastic film canisters or homemade PVC tubesand a little of your time look like a much better deal.
When I see items like this for sale it makes me kind of sad. Our society seems to be willing to spend much more money for thesimple convenience of something then saving a lot of money for just putting a little effort into something.

I like APP i switched to it and have used about 5 pounds. The sticks work well for me as does the loose. I measure my own if it comes to tight groups you can make a differance by using a balance scale. I reload and have had digital scales drift up to a grain + or - so I would say stick with a balance scale they are cheaper and more accurate.
A lot of people seem to like 3F I have had better results with 2 F I like my volicity at 2000+ and with those kind of loads you need 2F to keep the pressure down and still get tight groups.
When I check to see what I got by volium measure I found the best I could do was + or- 2 grains; thats a 4 grain differance which is enough to move impact point up and down some, maybe even affect the barrel whip.
My thoughts at this Point, I am testing Gold now and the only differance I have found so far is color and price. Lee

Following along on caygad's math you can do the same thing or near the same thing buy going to your local pharmacy and purchasing several smal pill bottles with srew caps. The brown pill contained and the water proof lid would be very inexspensive + the color of the container protects the powder from degrading light rays including ultra-violet. The screw on caps provides a water tight container.
You can either pre-measure your charges or weigh if you choose to and then drop them into the pill bottles...

2f is really thick size chunks. I remember when I was shooting some of it, I could not get over how big the grains were. I had to beat the sides of my powder measure to get the grains to go through the funnel at times.. That's why most people tell you to get the 3f.

Its bigger than 2F black or RS,since I use the can it comes in with the screw on funnel top at the range the only time I use a powder horn is with the Hawkens so far no problem. I use tc quick loaders hunting works good there to. If you have some thing with a small hole like a priming horn it wouldmost liklyhang up.Lee
