THOMPSON CENTER 7231 NIPPLE , STAINLESS SCOUT
That isthe correct P/N and it's listed at Dixiegun.Dixie has tons of things that are also not listed on the web or catalog.

Let me know if you still need one or an extra.

ENCOREMAN, excellent mod on theScout nipplefor a 1/4-28 Nipple! I have three one in use and two spares, but I will definetely keep that tip in mind.

ENCOREMAN

My nephew has a scout and has been having trouble with it firing. He works in a tool shop, do you think it would be possible to make a new nipple that would use a 209 primer ?He's been thinking of selling it but if this would work he'd like to keep it. Thanks

CD, tell him to use FFF black powder or Triple Se7en and his firing problems will most likely go away. Keep shots at 100g or less with these powders. If it is an originanal with the 1/20 twist use 44cal sabots of weights above 240g.

250g Shockwaves should perform fine in that rifle.

Thanks for the info. Pittsburghunter. I am the nephew and just got signed in. Any info would be highly appreciated. I am starting to get very frustrated with the misfires.

CD,
I don't think modifying the nipple to accept a 209 primer would work on the T/C Scout rifle. You would need to modify the reciever area to make clearance for the 209 primer holderand you would also have to modify the hammer. See pic's
I don't think it's worth carving up a Scout rifle to make this modification IMO.
I did experiment with musket cap nipples to get a hotter spark on the Scoutwith limited sucess.
In all the years shooting my Scout, I've never had a misfire. What scares me about the Scout is when I do a patch burn. I get better patch burn results out of my sidelocks than I do my Scout. This is why I tried using a musket cap nipple. Note: I did have to drill out the reciever to accept a musket cap nipple, but it's not noticeable.

The hammer would need to be modified too.

codsterboy,
Welcome to the post!
What ever you do don't sell your T/C Scout rifle. This rifle is no longer made by T/C and it has collectors value. Is your T/C Scout the rifle or carbine? I made a mistake years ago and soldmy .54cal.T/C Scout Pistol, because I was buying an Encore pistol. I kick myself to this day[:@].
There are several of us that have the Scout rifleand we'll get you going!
Try the 3F as Pittsburghunter suggests and get back to us.

RE: T/C Scout nipple

codsterboy,
It's been awhile since I've shot my Scout rifle to tell you what worked best for me. I do remember that it didn't seem to be fussy with what I fed it. The few targets that I have on file are for 90grs. BP with the 300gr. Hornady XTP and 260gr JHP Speer. The BP was Elephant FFg.
I plan to dust this rifle off this summer and try some of the new powders that are on the market now.
Pittsburghunter has more experienceshooting theScout rifle than Ihaveand he'd be able to help you more with loads for therifle. Remember what works in one gun may not work in another....they areall individuals.

codsterboy,
I should have asked earlierwhat cap are you using? I've had the best luck with CCI #11 magnum's and the RWS. If you are not using one of these caps, I'd try them out 1st.
Also, can you tell us more about when you get your misfires. Are they random, your 1st shot of the day, or after you clean between shots etc.
This info. can help us trace down your misfires.
