Default Now what do I do???

Shot a seven shot group with the Hawkins and peep site @50 yards using a shooting stick sitting. Three shots with 80 gr. fffg APP T/C break away sabot and Hornady 230 gr hpxtp 451 bullet. Shot 6 inches low. Peep site is as low as it will adjust.
Shot a three group with 100gr. fffg APP same bullet same sabot. Impact was in the same area.

Yes there is six shots in there.

So what to do to lift the point of impact up six inches?
Is there a lower profile front site for the hawkins?
Remount the Peep farther back on the stock, maybe reseces it some?
Trying to use up stuff like that AAP and musket caps. The hawkins does not like musket caps it appears as I had many go off with out lighting the charge. Sure helps over come any flinch thats for sure.

I wish I had yet some of my targets from shooting open sites. The groups are so much better with the peep.

I might be wrong, but I think you're going in the wrong direction with the peep sight!

You move the rear sight in the direction you want the bullet to travel. So in your case, if the peep sight is all the way at the bottom of the elevation screw... then move it to about the half way point on the elevation screw, and it should put you right in the ball park.

Rebel Hog is right on the money here.

By the way, your rifle is showing a lot of promise. That's a pretty good group you have there for 50 yards off shooting sticks. Once you get them holes on the right part of the paper and practice a little more, I will estimate that a deer better not come within 100 yards of that rifle, you and a set of sticks.. nice job.

I was shooting at 50 yards myself today with a T/C Renegade sporting a 1-28 twist Green Mountain Stainless Steel Barrel. The barrel has only standard sights on it. I was shooting 80 grains of Swiss 3f Black Powder and a Speer 250 grain HP ina T/C Mag Express Sabot. I was using the Dynamite Noble 1075 cap. Sabotloader was kind enough to email me this target that I print out on card stock paper and then I add a fluorescent orange dot in the center which I tape in place(where one is printed on). It makes a nice reference point to aim at. Today was 30 degrees, windy and overcast. The lighting could have been better but I was pleased overall with the way the rifle shot. I think next time I will put a larger fluorescent orange dot on the target as this one can be hard to focus on for some reason. Perhaps it is time to visit the eye doctor...[]

[]Now why didI forget the basics. I'm Just going to blame it on elder moments LOL. After all the eyes are going, reason for the peep in the first place. Seems the mind is going south too LOL.
I'll get back out today ifI FIND some time, switched nipples over to # 11 whenI cleaned her last night. Also will take some differnt powder too. Might just bee the APP isn't lighting off as it should.
Thanks very much for the gentile reminder guys.

Sure is nice being able to shoot in the back yard.

Found a bit of time this afternoon and shot a few rounds after adjusting the peep.
Still not happy with the APP not lighting off but that just helps control any flinch. Did have one I didn't think was going to light up and BANG a flyer.

All shots were with 100gr of APP T/C breakaway sabots and CCI mag #11 caps.
I did have 3 buff. bullets in yellow sabots rolling around in the box so old I don't remember what they were.

alleyyooper are you popping some caps through that rifle before loading it to make sure the fire channel is nice and clear? Also are you swabbing between shots or every other shot? If you are swabbing, I will guess that the swab solution is gumming up the works. Try swabbing with pure isopropyl alcohol and be sure and run two even three dry patches after the MOIST NOT DAMPswab. Many times the swab is too wet and it soaks into the fowling and kind of pushed it back against the area of the fire channel and that causes hang fires and misfires. When it hang fires sometimes you will pull the trigger, lift your head up off the stock even, and then it goes off. Also with APP you should not have to swab all that often. That is a clean burning powder.

If your Hawkins has a 1-48 twist perhaps a different kind of projectile might be in order, like a roundball or a short conical. The yellow Buffalo Bullet sabots come in so many different weights it is hard to say which ones you were shooting.

Actually that first and second group of the day look real good. It looks like you are going to have a real good shooter. If the APP keeps acting up, try and get your hands on a pound of Goex Black Powder... it will solve a lot of hangfire and misfire problems. Also a red hot/hot shot nipple will help too if you have not changed over from the factory one. I never shoot a factory nipple. I always put a hot shot nipple on .....

Keep shooting . .. it is doing real good. Unless of course you don't like shooting black powder rifles..

Cayugad, I have had this Hawkins since 1977. Used to shoot it a lot with round balls and T/C Maxi hunters (I think that was the name of that big chunk of lead.) but work sort of got me away from ML shooting and hunting.
When work finally settled down I bought a T/C plains rifle and installed the T/C quick mount system and an old Weaver K4 I had. Never was much shucks with dove tailed sights, now with my eyes getting older dove tails are impossiable much past 5 feet.
The buff. bullets were left over from that.
Since I happen to love Remington model 700rifles I had to have one when they hit the market. My main rifle during two ML seasons (UPPER & LOWERhere in Michigan. I do like the hawkins though and drag it with me where ever I go to hunt. Just never shoot it more than a couple times a year but with all the others acting up during the lower season this yearI took it out.

[:@]I don't care for this APP at all. I had nice groups with the 700 useing clean shot before the law suit. This stuff is the first batch I bought after the law suit. I found sabots still full of this stuff unburned from my 700. groups were all over my target and other peoples too I think. I didn't clean at all between shots today or yesterday. With the first batch of clean shot I bought I shot over 30 times at one sitting with out cleaning the bore on my 700. So I did love the stuff then
I now use t7 when I am serious about groups. Plan on trying some of the other stuff too by next season. My dealer no longer carries gorex or any other black powder due to storage needs and to be honest he didn't sell that much any more.

Thanks for all the help.
