Hey Wolfhound, have you tried pellets in it yet?
Nope. I don't use pellets. A fact which upset a fellow at the place I buy my powder. I was shopping for777 FFFG and they were out of all 777 loose powder.I told him they didn't have any Triple Seven powder and he said "Sure do" and pointed to boxes apon boxes of pellets. I told him POWDER not pellets. I then got a short lecture on the advantages of pellets to which I asked him if they made any for a sidelock. That stopped him for a moment. He then told me they could order some and stick it on the regular truck for me. No Hazmat!

I just like Triple Seven loose powder. I don't have to buy a different type for every gun I shoot. I use the FFG in my 2 inline rifles and FFFG in my Hawkeye and sidelock.

Could and or would you use FFFG in an inline? I shot FFG in the Hawkeye-60grs. yesterday and it seemed to perform OK, do you think that i will see any noticeable difference in the two?

You could but I doubt you'd see any real benefit. Maybe in the fouling but that'd be it. In the Hawkeye you'll see a velocity increase. The finer powder burns faster in the short barrel giving you better velocity. It just helps you get more benefit out of the shorter barrel. You shot it over a chrono yet?

Edit: By the way that stainless is pretty. I've got the same stock but mine is blued.

Haven't chronoed it yet, have a cheap o unit that does a pretty fair job but have forgotten to get it out when I'm shooting it. Sure is a blast to shoot. Wish our season was still in, was bow hunting this morning and had a big doe at 10yds. would have been fun to bust her with the Hawkwye

Rog,
You're going to have a lot of fun finding the pet load for your Hawkeye's.
I wanted to go shooting today, but it's nasty outside.....I should have gone yesterday[&o]
Do you have a chronograph to help you develop your max.load on your Hawkeye? I don't drag mine out oten, but it is a useful tool.

Yep got a Chrony, I am like you don't drag it out often, sure shows the variances on black powder with the same load. Got to go sit in a tree, only 2.5 days of bow season left.

Roger,
You have a powder scale? I weigh out 48 gr of FFFG 777 for my Hawkeye (60 gr by volume) and get more consistant velocity than with volumetric charges.

Edit: Forgot to add that I have a season coming up in a couple weeks. I'm gonna try to get one with my Hawkeye. Our late firearm season is the only season my Hawkeye is legal in here.

Wolfhound
Yep I have a scale. How is that figured by volume vresus by weighed charge? Oh, I got an email from Jeff Dinwiddy of Knight rifles stating that a by volume charge of 70 grs. of 777 is max load for the Hawkeye.
You and Encoreman are lucky to have a late season like that here in Indiana Sunday is the end and I am not ready to quit!!!!
Encoreman,
Got the scope yesterday afternoon, got a feeling we will be making some noise around here today, I owe ya one!
