Sayboes or Sabots
Since question about sabots come along every once in awhile, and I have my fair share of them I thought I might share this little sheet that I made up last year from my collection of sabots... This collection does not include the new Harvesters such as the crush rib or any of the new black harvester 50's
I do not have a point to make and I do not know if any one will get any valuable information - but the world of sabots is huge...

Yep! I did forget them. I have never used them so i did not have any on hand... When I was doing this I was searching for the right sabot for my rifles - Hornady sabots were not working for me - way to difficult to load - so I started buying a box of every brand trying to find the right one.

Question to sabotloader - which sabot did you find easiest to load? So far, the only thing I've found that I can get down my barrel is a Powerbelt.
Question to BlackBellamy - How would you go about making your own sabots?

You didn't mention which rifle and which caliber? but assuming 54 cal and a TC - I would tell you there are not as many options as with a 50...
The thinnest 54 is a sabot packaged by Traditions, Thompson Center, and manufactured by Harvester or a package of Harvester's. The Nosler sabot is a close 2nd.
For 50/45's the abosolute thinnest is the new Harvester "crush rib" then it is real close between the MMP-HPH-24 and the Harvester Black Sabot, followed by the Nosler.
If you a shooting an Omega - well just let me know which rifle if you get a chance...

Sabotloader.. I did the same thing. I just bought a couple bags of each of the different sabots and size. That's how I got started shooting the .458 diameter Knight orange sabots. I never shot the break away either. I just never liked their design enough to buy any. For those that shoot them, how do they work (accuracy, ease of loading, etc).

I cast a .457 diameter 405 grain flat point pure lead bullet which are commonly used in a 45/70 government rifle. I load them with 100 grains of Goex and shoot them out of my Black Diamond XR and my Knight Wolverine. I also buy some Remington 405 grain copper coated FP's and they also shoot very well. When they hit down range you know it. They will knock the steel plates right off the bullet trap on me..
