It has been a few years since I purchased any black powder. I found ONE local gunshop that carries it and they want $20.00/lb. Last time I bought some it was $8.00.
What are the going rates now? I don't shoot enough to make a bulk purchase myself but if anybody in Mid MI is going to be ordering some I would love to piggyback.

The going rate is what ever someone will pay for it. The problem with small gun shops is they have to pay the haz mat fee too. So they pass all that cost on to the consumer of course. There are also a lot of federal and insurance restrictions that gun shops have to follow in order to even sell the stuff. That is the reason you are seeing more and more stores simply not carry it. Insurance rates are murder for the small gun shop that sells black powder.
I purchase my Goex and Swiss Black Powder by the cae or by the half case through http://www.powderinc.com. The last time I think I paid $8.50 a pound for the Goex but then you tack on the $25.00 haz mat fee which pops another dollar a pound on. So anywhere around $10.00 a pound would be reasonable without any real profit to the store. I think they are making a little profit on you to cover all the other expenses they have.

I also order from http://www.powderinc.com/. The order I just placed its now $10.50 a pound and $34 shipping to PA, so works out to be $86.50 or $17.30 a pound for me. So the 20 bucks a pound locally, the guy isnt making a lot on it based on his insurance costs and dealing with the feds.

You really do not save any money unless you order by the case it seems. Also, papellet or anyone else, have you tried the black powder that is sold by Graf & Sons. It is made by Wano out of Germany I was told. I have heard it is pretty good powder. I see Powder Inc. has raised the price again on the powder, so maybe the next case will be through Graf & Sons. AlthoughI wanted to pick up 5 pounds of Pinnacle FFFg.

I think Graf's sells their brand for about $9.50/lb., before shipping & hazmat fees are tacked on......
Hmmm.... Interesting! I just looked at Graf's site, and they are only showing GOEX and Swiss BP- GOEX is 10.59/lb., and Swiss is $17.59.
I have usedthe Swiss stuff, and it is very good. But I am not sure that it is really superior to GOEX for my uses. Maybe for BPCR competitions, it may be better....
I WAS considereing trying Pinnacle too, but having heard that it is just Clean Shot (American Pioneer)in GOEX cans, I've changedmy mind. I've still got a couple pounds of Clean Shot- maybe what I need to try is Black Mag III.

They revamped their site and haven't been showing the Graf. You'll have to call them for it. Was $9 a pound last I ordered.
