Default Redfield or Leupold?

What do you guys think I should get for my 50. cal muzzleloader - a Leupold 3-9 40mm for $200 or a Redfield 3-9 50mm for $160? Right now I have $170. Should I do more chores and save up 30 more bucks and buy a Leupold or settle for the Redfield?

Thanks

PS: What are some good quality mounts?

I'd save the extra 30 bucks and the get the leupold if you can get one that cheap. For no other reason than the customer service and reputation. Now if the price difference were 100 bucks and you were on a budget I would say get the redfield if you like it. It is best to compare scopes side by side though so you can really see what you are getting.

Both are good scopes. Let your pocket book be the guide. If you can afford the better scope then go with it. I personally shoot very low end scopes and have had great luck with them. You should be flying high with them...

Good luck with the rifle.

I looked at a Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40 mm today at one of the gun shops I was prowling in. What a nice clear scope.Life time warranty he said too. He offered it to me for $169.00 and it was a real beauty. It seemed to have some excellent eye relief. In fact I wasgoing to study further on it and see if I might like to give it a new home.

I have to go and take my Ruger Redhawk .44 mag back there next week for a scope mount and a RED DOT and I was thinking of taking my Black Diamond XR up there and have him mount the Nikon on the Diamond and then throw the Bushnell Banner Dusk to Dawn on the Knight Wolverine II as my stalking rifle....

Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40mm blue matt finish for $149.00 and they pay shipping. Not a bad deal. The one thing I noticed is the eye releif was 3.6 inches. For some reason it seemed more then that when I was looking at it in the store today. But still, a nice clear quick to view scope. Something to think about...

Leupold Scope, Rings and Mounts.

The QR Rings and base are excellent.

You will have the scope if cared for the rest of your life and pass on to your children.

Leupold's lifetime warranty and quality never needing to use the warranty keeps me a long standing customer.
