i guess i should reply know! i use a bow untill my nerves give out then i bring out the 22 mag! witch i did the other night, remember huuntnmuleys! i thought i would take a gun as we went to check some public ground for boundries. and sure enough there was a nice tom and some hens on the public. so brad and i got in front of them and set down by a tree and waited. soon after the hens came by and then the tom, he was only 40 yards. as i shot the tom gobbled, and gobble, and gobble, so i jacked another shell in, and click! and i opened the lever and no shell, oh thats right i had only 1 shell! so now brad calls me 1 shot!
22 mag to easy? not if he is 40 yards i shot right over his back! and it is iron sights no scope, not really a excuse but i just don't shoot rifles enough any more. my bad! next time i will have my bow again, i only shot 1 bird with shotgun not to impressed. it would have been easy this year if i was using a shotgun!
270's i like them, i just don't own one!

Now let me get this straight.
A 270 is too small for elk!
A 22 mag to to big for turkey.
Next thing somebody will say the only way to hunt rabbits is with a shotgun and a dog.
Hey If it legal were your at and you want to use it, use it.

Just "coming at it" from yet one more direction....
Check out the info in the link, just one more thing that says "use enough gun" for elk....

The Taylor Index Recommendations for elk start at 20.
The "crossover rifles" (especially the "high end") are right about where you'd expect.
"Elk rifles" just pick it up from there.
