i agree with ya.
fair to the animal, probably not at all.
healthy? id say so, after all the average american is only 15 or 20 lbs overweight.
i think that if people ate more lean meat (wild game) that we wouldnt have the problems. but then, if they did, there wouldnt be as many animals in the forest, or near as much land for us to hunt, so maybe in that respect its for the best.

i feel like an authority on this topic, i am 30, grew up on beef, pork, ect. even though my family hunted a ton (i never have figured out what happened to all the meat we must have had, we hardly ever had wild game, and i considered it a treat when we did) and was very heavy through my youth and early adulthood. it has taken me years to lose that weight, and im not there yet....but actually not too far off finally
my 2 cents worth

I save alot of mine to spread it out over the year. I would say 1-2 times a week. Wish I could every day though.

I am NOT a fan of the way that our Beef, Chicken and Pigs are handled, treated and pumped up before they are sold to the markets. It's not not fair to the animal (no matter how dumb they are) and it's NOT healthy for our families!!!! ( No matter how much they say that it's OK)!

Did I open up a can or do you agree???
I really don't care much about the animal rights angle of this issue but I completely agree regarding the science experiment that is the meat in this country.

First of all, lets not use the term "pumped" when referencing use of hormones & antibiotics in 'our' meat source.

The reason I am making a point of this is because "pumped" is generally used in reference to the meat producers practice of adding 'water weight' to our meat. They do it by 'pumping' a water based solution (brine) into the meat. In fact, the practice was popularized by the Turkey Growers as making a turkey easy to cook. They now will do it with pork, chicken, seafood and etc. While it might raise your sodium intake, these solutions are basically harmless. The only bad part is that you pay for water.

The use of antibiotics and hormones on our meat sources to promote rapid growth and large yield cattle lots is what is killing America.

Steroids in Baseball is the topic du jour but forget about the 14 year old girl with natural double d breats because of the hormones in our milk.

The medical community has changed their consensus opinion on antibiotic usage to one of need. As a whole they are perscribing less and less antibiotics because of fear of creating super strains but the meat that we feed our people is flooded with antibiotics.

Even the health concious American can't find a good protien source. Salmon is the popular choice for the majority of Americans concerned about their health. It is a great source of good fats and etc. Too bad that we have even screwed this up with Farm Raised Salmon. The health benifits are a fraction of Wild Salmon. They pump it full of coloring because nobody would purchase gray salmon. Heck, they now claim that farm raised salmon might be cancer causing.

That is why I try to eat as much wild meat as possible (fish, birds and mammals) and, when it is not wild, like my turkey sanwiches, I purchase 100% organic meat and cook it myself. It is the main reason that I have a large garden and lots of fruit trees.

We are losing touch with our food sources...
