Default How to cook elk steaks?

While I did not get an Elk this year, I did have a client give me some nice elk steaks. I have never cooked/bbq'ed/baked elk steak before and I was wondering if any of you would share some of your favorite ways of cooking elk steak.

Thanks,

Matt

Rinse them with cold water and slap them on the grill. Cook to med rare and eat like a pig! Add a bake potato with the works and some vegies and you are in heaven. If you like to up grade a little saute some mushroom in butter, add a little garlic and a little Bordeaux wine. If you need a cheese sauce for a green vegie or potato, I can give you recipe for that too.

Yeah 1/2 raw and over a grate on a fire fresh off an elk in the Flat Tops. Thats the way I like them best.

what (if any) spices should I use? What about marinades? Or is elk steak just so dang good that it doesn't need any of that stuff?

Thanks,

Matt

P.S. Hook me up with the cheese sauce recipe please!!!!!!

OK Matt, Here you go, Milk,Velveeta and Lea & Perin sauce. You melt your cheese slow and add milk to make it as thick or runny as you like it. Add 1tsb of Lea & Perin per 1/2lb of cheese you use. If you like your cheese sauce with a little zip add some tobasco or some green chiles. As for the elk steak, I really don't put anything on mine, salt and pepper after it is cooked.

My favorite elk meat is the meal cooked over an open fire in spike camp the day of the harvest. Fry up some onions and mushrooms with it. It kind of reminds me of a beer comercial,"Guys, It don't get any better than this"
