I am thinking about taking another fall of in Montana from college so i have all of it to hunt. I did this back in 2002 with a buddy and am now thinking about doing it again. I missed the 2004 season cause i am in this lil iraqy thing. I just cant decide if i should go right back to college and hunt weekends, or if i should take the fall off and hunt all the time. I still would do summer school. Hmmmmmm Hard choice huh. Dam Elk

I went to college at the Uof Montana in Missoula and I can honestly say hunting effected my grades. Still, if you keep up your work you can do both. I certainly didn't hunt as much as I would like to have. Remember, once your out of college and in the real world, most have even less time to hunt.

If you can get a full schedule in the summer go for it. I went to school at Northwest(powell wyo) and didnt hunt, I was in the shape of my life(wrestling scholarship), was 20miles from the mtns and in deer/antelope country 1/2 mile out of town. I've regretted it ever since[:@] if you can still get 2 full semesters worth of school/year go for it.

I would say try and do both. I don't know your situation too well but unless you are on a grade based scholarship your grades aren't super important. What I mean is that if hunting brings your GPA from a 3.5 to a 3.0 one semester it really doesn't matter. All through college I would make something up and tell the intructor that I would need to miss a bunch of time and they usually were willing to work with me as long as I planned it far enough in advance. I got a C in biology one year because I had to miss an important project due to hunting and the instructor wouldn't let me make it up. Oh well that C didn't effect a thing. But I think you'll be glad you didn't put it off.

I did six years of college, I have B.A. and M.S. and even some stuff towards a PhD. I have been published a few times in chemical journals. I make pretty good money. I hunt moose, bear, caribou, deer, elk, antelope, sheep. This year, I scored on moose and caribou and will hunt Kodiak brownies in April. I have a boat and a very nice truck. I use them to chase salmon and halibut in the summer. My next goal is an African Safari, which I plan to take in the next five years. Bottom Line, my job let's me hunt lots of things in lots of places. Stay in school and get your degree. Make wise decisions. The sooner you start making some real money, the sooner you can expand your hunting.

I teach college and see kids every year who are "taking a semester off" for this reason or that. Many never return! Finish your education while you are young. Select a "career" (as opposed to a job) which interests you as you will be doing that type work for the next 30 years. Take advantage of your brain while it is in "sponge" mode. Good luck!
