Default Mule Deer Hunt

Just a note from SD. We hunted Mule deer for the last two days here in west river. Two of use took four very big muley does. We past an a nice muley Buck and a good whitetail on the irst day. Weather is fine. Tonight we are making sausage at a friends house. Got to head back to ND on Sunday. We have two for seasons yet here for deer. Hope to get a chance at a cow elk tomorrow. We saw some on a meadow tonight but lost daylight before we could get close enough for a shot. I can't believe the size of the mule deer this year. In 48 years of hunting this unit, I have never seen such big bodied deer. Quess the ranchers are feeding them well. Good hunting to all.

Got a nice big cow elk yesterday morning. They had been comming out on a meadow but just after dark. I took a bed roll and slept out there the night before. I got a good shot (about 125 yards) just at sunup. 50 cal TC woods rifle. 300 grain Hornady XTP with mag sabot, two 50 grain pyrodex pellets. She went about twenty yards and expired from a double lung shot. I go back for Mule deer next week then muzzle loader deer in later Dec. Hope everyone is doing well.
