RE: bear hunting with a pistol
I cast a "fairly hard" 255 grain Keith style bullet for my 44 mag.. I've shot moose, deer ect.. with it, and got good penetration, so i don't see why it wouldn't also be good for blk. bear! It's what i'd use if i was going after a blk. bear with my 44..
All i can say is, those real heavy jacketed bullets are hard on a revolver, have a LOT of recoil, and are hard to get sighted in! This is why i choose to use hard cast bullets!
My "hard cast" bullet is just hard enough so your thumb nail will still sctrtch it but not peel any lead off while doing so. I've shot thousands and thousands of them in my 44's..
