I was at Walmart today and saw a Weatherby 7MM Rem Mag for $385. It is all black and fairly plain. I am new to hunting and shooting. If I bought a reasonable scope, how accurate would this rifle be at 200 or 300 yards? Does doubling or trippling the rifle investment, drastically improve accuracy, or does it buy a fancier looking gun? Sorry, if this has been asked before, but I am fairly new to the forum.
Cheers
P.S. Why would Weatherby make a 7MM REM Mag and not a 7MM Weatherby Mag?

In some cases spending more buys nothing but a fancier gun.For instance the weatherby vanguard and mark V both have the same 1-1/2" accuracy guarantee while the vanguard is less than half the price of the markV.The tikkas also cost less than half the price of markV but they have to shoot a 1" group before being sold.Rifles such as those sold by H-S precision and others come with a 1/2" guarantee but cost even more than most markVs.Then again rifles sold by savage come with no accuracy guarantee and are low priced and they have an excellent reputation for being accurate.Buying a factory rifle can be a crap shoot as you can buy two identical rifles in the same chambering and while one may shoot 1/2" groups the other may do no better than 1-1/2" groups or even worse.

You never know what you are getting until you buy it. No matter how much it costs you . There are a lot of factords involved, like how much or how often you shoot , if the gun and the cal. fits you , if you have confidence in your ability. I have bought a few cheap rifles . I personally dont like a Weatherby I think they have a bad stock design and allow to muck of the recoil to come back at you . For that you might invest in a Savage or a Remington mod. 700 ADL. just a thought. Leroy

I wouldn't worry much about the accuracy, the Weatherby Vanguards are guaranteed to shoot 1.5" at 100yrds, whether or not YOU will ever shoot it that well is none of their business, but at least you know it CAN do it.
