Default Elk hunting

I'm going on my first elk hunt, and need some advice.I have been practicing on a Primos Imperial red mouth call. It's been going good, but I would like to know if somebody has tried any of their stuff before, and if they like it or not.And when do you get more aggressive on the calling.I'd like to hear your comments on the products and any other advice is appreciated.

If you are hunting a public area, the bulls will most likely be call shy and if you approach them agressively with a bugle, they will probably go the other way. Use the bugle mainly to locate them, and then use mostly the cow call. The only time to bugle in close is if you get between the bull and his cows. If you are going in a limited draw area that doesn't get hunted hard, then the bugle might work better to bring them in. What state are you going in?

Good luck on your hunt! your in for a real treat in elk hunting. I wont comment on specific calls they are all good when the bulls are snotty! Public land can be a challenge to get a bull that wont shut down on you when you get too close. I have hunted Idaho successfully just north of your area and for me it depended on the age of the bull. Two older bulls taken were very agressive! The others were located with the bugle, or by being patient and letting them talk at the early am or evening hours. Your biggest key will be to locate the animals, many hunters waist time hunting drainges with no animals in them. Once located you will enjoy the challenge of the stalk. I used to get very frustrated by not having it all my way, in retrospect it is too fun grtting in close no matter what happens! It is hunting at it's best and we are always learning! Go getem!!
