Best raingear?

RE: Best raingear?
Getting good reports on stealth suede. Swazi is one good brand.
I use mostly Polarfleece lined with Milar and although the outer absorbs moisture in rain conditions, it does not seep through to under layers, also dries real quick. Is very quiet to stalk in.
Have tried lots of other fabrics, Goretex is great stuff so long as you don't sweat much, otherwise you just get wet from the inside.
Mostly I just tolerate getting wet during the day, and just make sure I have dry clothes at camp. So long as its not too cold.

Hey Robb...I have an issued set of Military gortex. Its not made for rain, its made for the cold weather as out most layer on our ECWCS. Your dang right it dont hold out water. Brand new they hold up for a year or two depending on how much use ya put them through but over all they are junk. In 6 years of being up here I am on my 3rd jacket....could stand to spring for jacket number 4 but heck with 5 months left why bother LOL!

I have the cabelas MT50 raingear and really like it. I am a bowhunter and it seems very quiet, more so than most. What I like most about it is that it packs down into its own pocket. I have been hunting a couple of times when I wouldn't have taken rain gear if it hadn't been so compact and ended up really glad that I did!! Raingear won't keep you dry if it is still at camp.....
I've never spent all day walking through a pouring rain with it on (I am generally smarter than that, or maybe just getting too old) but the MT50 has handled some pretty heavy downpours without any leaking.

Superstrike:
Filsons is better for very short hunts, or for hunting off of horse back..wouldn't recomend it for a real sweaty hunt.
I bought some MT050 last year, but never got to test it in the rain (darn).
It was comfortable, breathable, and wind proof though. Heard great things about it, so I thought i'd try it.
Can anyone out there tell me about the nap on their MT050? Mine are in Mossy Oak camo pattern, and the nap is very very short. Not as quiet as I'd hoped, but better than rubber.
I had a pair of "Real Tree" pants at first, and their nap was nice and fuzzy. Can't seem to get that in Mossy Oak. Is it a function of the camo pattern, or were the fuzzy pants a fluke?
thane

Thanks Thane I've got a Filson packer that my brother just had to buy for me this year and have been using it for horse hunting. I haven't had a chance to try it in the rain yet. It hasn't rained in 10 months In NM and it's been dry in CO to. How good is that stuff in the rain!!

I can't swear to it, but my impression is that it wont hold up to a multi day down pour.
None of the "oiled cloth" products that I have tested were able to hole up. For horse back riding, it may be fine, but most of the packers I know, use Hally Hanson commercial fishing grade gear instead of oiled cloth.
Products like Filsons and Outback are a kind of romantic holdover from the old west days.
