Default 2022 Elk hunt.

I forgot to post this earlier.

Short notice, I know, but I am going on an elk hunt. Season starts TOMORROW. Going out tomorrow morning.

Its a short ranged hunt, any elk, according to the tag.

I’ll post updates as I go.

I didn’t post this yesterday because I was very busy after it happened. I spotted a 4 x 4 bull while driving on the boundary between units 53 and 52A. He was in BLM land. I quickly pulled over at a safe spot, got everything ready. However, I was not quick enough. He immediately jumped into unit 52A, and I could not take him.

My tag is only valid for the snake river zone, which is 53. Not the big desert zone, which is 52A.

Oh well.

Sounds like you're in the right area anyway

So unlimited tags available in an area I guess they don’t really want elk? Intriguing. Sounds like you will be shooting the first elk you see on the right side of the line. Long season! What weapon are you using?

I’m currently debating about that actually. On the one hand, my shotgun holds five slugs, but it’s limited to about 75 yards. On the other hand, my muzzleloader can shoot about 100 yards, but it’s limited to one shot. I’m not sure which one to use, so I’ve been alternating each day. Anyway, concerning what you said, this is actually farmland I have permission to hunt. The elk have been harming the sugar beets. The farmer, a good friend of mine from church, wants me to try and at least scare them off. If I get an elk, that’s a bonus.

Why not buy a rifle, you should have one anyway of you are going to hunt big game. A rifled barrel shotgun with a scope and saboted shells should be good at 100 yards.
