Default Montana Hunting 2019

Another year of hunting is in the books. This year was a challenge like everywhere else. We had the most moisture I can ever remember. We sell our calves it two groups every year. The first group we had to cancel for two weeks due to snow and ice storms and the second group we had to cancel for a week. Our hunters were still able to fill their tags before the storms hit. There were some nice 4x4 mule deer bucks and some cow elk taken off this year. I was so far behind I wasnít able to get any pictures of what was taken off. Our hunters showed up and filled and had to hurry home before the next storm hit. I did get some nice ones that were still left afterwards I posted them on my homepage here. We have a few openings for archery next year and so far we donít have any antelope hunters lined up for next year either. I hope everyone else had a good year as well and were able to get out and home without any trouble. Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Congrats on a good season. I have hunted in eastern Montana the last 6 years and sad to say this may have been my last . I have a great spot and you can't beat the people and not too mention the game rich environment but I only bow hunt and the last couple years its been getting harder and harder to pull much weight !

They find any CWD deer down that way? Seems like the FWP keeps siting more cases across the state of Montana. How many acres you lease out, you might want to post it in the Lease sub forum.

They have found some in our district, but so far nothing close to us. Yeah they're finding quite a few cases this year in Montana. The state is also getting wild hogs from Canada coming in so they are worried about that as well.

I believe there is concern over wild hogs coming across the border. I live outside of Glasgow, have not heard any reports of actual feral pigs crossing in our area.....now wolves on the other hand.....yep, they are around.

Yeah, that was a definitely a great season, if we would compare with the last one before that.

I'm not sure what Montana they were in but from my point of view this was the worst season since 1971. I hunted 28 days on horseback, heard two shots, and saw three elk. The weather was horrible with preseason snow that froze. The south sides thawed and were bare. I figured I covered 280 miles, wore out horses, and only saw a single muley doe.

Prior to season after two hard winters the elk herds were down to a third. The calf crop was down by 70% and the predator population is the highest I have seen ( wolves and mtn. lions). I live here on a ranch. If you are looking for an elk hunt I wouldn't touch Montana for the next 5 years.
