Closest shot on a big game animal?

I have had some close ones but the closest was when I was a stander on a drive. I was standing on the bank of a small run when some pushed deer came running right at me, it was when we had a doe season. I watched a doe coming right at me and she ran right to the opposite bank and stopped, about 6 feet away. I had the cross hairs on her from about 50 yards, when she stopped at the stream bank I was dead center on the brisket, when I saw her tensing up to jump I fired. She jumped the run and fell next to me and sprayed blood all over my pants dead as a door nail.

Shot a decent buck at 30 yards here in Vermont. The deer dropped at the shot then ran straight at me. By the time I jacked another bullet the deer was 6 feet in front of me and I shot him from the hip in the mid section as he ran 2 feet past me. Nice 8 point.

Lot of years ago when we still lived in Pa, the old man and his buddy Leanord put on a mini drive for me. We were doing a deer reduction on a 220 acre farm they were managing. I was posted at the top of a small rise and this fat doe came hauling rear. Dang thing had the after burners kicked in and I had the old Mossburg 12 gauge slug barreled with a 2-7 SG scope. Couldn't get a clean shot all the way up the hill. I stepped back half a step or so and went to my knee behind a big Oak. She ran right past me nearly brushing the muzzle. Pulled the trigger and got flat out covered in blood spray. My muzzle was literally inches, 6 at the most, away from right behind her shoulder. She endoed, rolled, then slid 10 or so feet. Side was a total mess, whole back side of the shoulder blown off, about a 8 inch burn and man you should have seen what close contact gas cutting does to a deer. He chest cavity was wreckage.

As for guns when you die. Sell them. Maybe get lucky and have friends or friends kids, ect to give them too. I wouldn't do it when my kid was a teen. But when he is older, maybe you mentor young kids.
I wouldn't worry about this for 20-40 years. Just live your life and see how it goes.

theres a gradual, but noticeable improvement in how effective a rifle is at dropping game as the bullet mass and impact energy levels are increased.
the issue is simply that most guys have only shot a few large game animals, most guys are not as good of shots as they imagine themselves to be,
and if your experience and conclusions are based on a rather limited sample base, its easy to come to erroneous conclusions, based on that limited info.
many guys don,t grasp the difference between lethality, and a rifles ability to instantly or at least very rapidly destroy an animals ability to stay on its feet, with a well placed shot
I doubt theres anything walking in north America.a 30/06 with the proper ammo and shot placement,
that can,t be killed with one shot, but, at times having 15 seconds, or even, minutes between a bullet impact and the complete shut down of an animals ability ,
to express its disapproval of your presents on your body, matters, but Id have a lot more confidence
