We're not not far off (ironwise) my friend. I don't own a 6.5 (Ok I do have a carcano)... My preferred cartridge is the 7mm-08. The Creedmor is probably just better. If I can't kill it with 7mm or '06, the .338 Win Mag WILL.

Want a 6.5 for kicks, but I am old school at heart.
My dad gifted me a Remington 760 30-06 pump that I broke in by shooting 300 rounds of Core-Lokt and Peters ammo through without cleaning. While managing to kill lots of hogs and deer. Fast forward 10 years and I moved out west, learned about shots over 100 yards. Killed 6 elk and two Mulies with core-lokt ammo from 150 to 425 yards. Then, I learned about reloading and how to clean a rifle bore.
Handloaded some Bergers, spent $500 on a Leuopold scope, and decent rings-turns out I have a pump that shoots less than MOA even after 400 shots with no cleaning or "break-in" process.
Don't over think it-shoot a lot, find the animals and put it in the boiler room!

'06 or What else?
There's a reason I call myself rem7600! ;-)
Free-floated, accurate with a good set of rings, (mine started with and old Redfield 2-7x Dad's 7400 still wears it (my current is a Burris 1.5-6X Sig Series with Warne base and rings) Accurate as all get up with most 150-180gr fodder.
As stated before, I am working on my ultimate East/West solution and I'm confident this rifle is the one! Good at 20yds, even better at 350 when it starts to slow!
I have plenty of Bolt rifles to kill whitetails or mulies, moose, bear, etc. but this is the one I chose to be "my rifle". Longest kill with IT measured, right tight to, 400. Not bad for a stock rifle that kicks like a mule!

PS: Spent yesterday teaching and ole boy to reload! I bought the dies and some bullets and he did GREAT! Weighing each load Charge! .270 Win Savage. Nice!
Nosler Partitions IMR 4350 to start with his new Savage 270 Win. 140gr Partitions. They'll take anything in NA with even OK placement.

I don't want to see any of these 3 go away!
I didn't have any .338 Win Mag available right now, but I will soon.

PS: These are the latest rounds that have microchips to direct them! See Intel Inside!
