Default 444 Marlin?

A 444 is just one of the straight-walled cartridge that is allowed in Ohio to hunt deer with. I remember 40 years ago it was popular caliber. Been thinking about picking up one not only for deer but I do bear hunt often and could use it to bear hunt. Any thought on the 444?

It shoots a 265 grain bullet 2400 fps and shoots flat to 200 yards. You couldn't ask better much better for something legal in your area.

Legal deer hunting rifles are chambered for the following calibers: .357 Magnum, .357 Maximum, .38 Special, .375 Super Magnum, .375 Winchester, .38-55, .41 Long Colt, .41 Magnum, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .444 Marlin, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Long Colt, .45 Winchester Magnum, .45 Smith & Wesson, .454 Casull, .460 Smith & Wesson, .45-70, .45-90, .45-110, .475 Linebaugh, .50-70, .50-90, .50-100, .50-110 and .500 Smith & Wesson.

Its a shame they left out the 405 Winchester and 450 Marlin. Sounds like the 375 Win or 444 Marlin would both work quite well.

It should take any deer or bear off it's feet on impact.

Pretty good wallop!

I didn't quite tell the whole story when I said I was thinking about picking up a 444. To make the story short I was suppose to inherit a 444 from a distance relative. The owner of it didn't want certain relatives getting any of his guns. Bottom line is I didn't receive any of his guns. Since I was looking forward to owning it I had been reading up on the 444 a bit. I guess now I'll keep my eye out for a good deal on one.

Had one version or another of the .444 Mar for a lot of years and have taken everything from Hogs to Moose with them. 265gr Interlock loaded up will knock the socks off pretty much anything on this continent out to 150 yards. For anything over whitetail size I don't push it past 150. Whitetail I push mine to 200 if I absolutely have NO other option of getting closer.

Hey Ron, I sure don't see it listed in this C/P I did right off your DNR website:
