670 yard Mule Deer
I was whitetail hunting last weekend when I ran into this mule deer. The rest is history!

We lowly peasants put more emphasis on working close to game and taking a high percentage shot. Out here in BFE we call that hunting.
Well, I suppose if you can't stalk you have no choice but to shoot from extreme range and hope for the best.

Actually I think any hunter that would rather take long (and by definition less sure) shots rather than stalk close is a fool. Sometimes the long shot has to be taken and I've taken my share. But never when the hunter can work close and make it a sure thing.
It is the ethic I was taught. You owe it to the game.

For those that know the craft of long range shooting and practice and perfect their skill, I have no problem with long range shooting.
Great shot!
For Bull and I, who can't shoot well at long range, we should stay with short shots

and btw, how can you justify taking a long shot.. sometimes, but condemn a guy who doesn't have a problem with them anytime?

RR,
You still haven't made the case for taking a long shot when a short one would be possible. I thought this was about maximizing the odds for a clean kill, not treating big game like a varmint shoot.
Help me out here.
