Default Packing in with horses in Colorado's Hermosa Creek

Anybody done it? What's the ride like? Is it steep hills or riding along cliff edges? Me or the horses have not ridden in mountains before so I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect. Going after archery elk next year. Thanks for the help!

I lived in that part of the country 35 years ago and when I think "Hermosa," I think steep cliffs and Purgatory ski area. You might look at Google Maps for a general idea, and I also found a flyfishing video on Youtube that tends to make me think that Hermosa Creek isn't nearly as steep as the cliffs in my memory. Absolutely beautiful country up there once you get off the highway.

Ya I think I saw the same video. After doing more research though I think I'm going to investigate either the Weminuche or more likely the South San Juan Wilderness. I don't like the idea of guys on atvs buzzing around.
