How about a late season elk hunt, while the kids are out on winter break? December 1-31? Enough time? It would be a cow tag but at least it would be elk!

My son takes his School work with him on Our Moose hunt. He has some time in the evenings to do it. It' s just some extra paper work the teachers give him so he won' t fall behind during the 2 week trip

Give the family an overseas holiday, but take your rifle/bow.
eg. New Zealand.
There' s hunting all year round in other parts of the world, as well as plenty of alternative activities for the family.
