150 Barnes Triple X would kill a moose without a problem. Essentially, it's a 30-06 with a slightly more narrow bullet.

Although you can use them if you feel the need.

Thank you Muley.........folks have been sold a bill of goods that they need all these fancy bonded bullets, all they really do is lighten your wallet!!!The biggest magnum and the fanciest bonded bullet will NEVER replace a well placed shot!!!
Some folks that reload have started the premium bullet craze, they think that only the most expensive components availible will work!! I reload for my .300 H&H because I don't like paying $50/60 a box!!! I relload with the OLD 150grn Winchester Silvertips when I can find them, which is getting harder every day. These bullets kill elk consistantly year in and year out!!!

Amen bro.

One of the bad side effects of the premium bullets is guys think they can now use smaller calibers to kill game. It makes me sick seeing someone asking if a .243 is ok for elk. Yes, with a good bullet and a well placed shot it can kill an elk, but it's sure a lousy choice for such a big animal. Everybody seems to feel they can always place the perfect shot.

We know better.

I guess I don't understand the point here.... R U talking about the .308 winchester?? R U saying the .308 winchester and the 30.06 use different diameter bullets??? maybe U ment the case was shorter than a 30.06.................

He meant the .270 is a necked down 30-06 case.

You got thrown off by his name being 308.

Default is a 270win good enough for moose

the 270 is an excellent moose rifle if you can shoot it well. I would use a prime bullet like the barnes ttsx or nosler partition. a 130 gr with a mv of 3000fps will do the job out to 200 yards.
