Second, how many elk are shot at or beyond 500 yards every year? Not enough to warrant your 270 to 308 comparison. Although I do agree that a 270 is adequate for killing elk.

Third, and lastly, while the 308 is similar to the 30-06 it is not "more than equal" in any area to it.
Please go back and read what I said...I never compared the .308 to the 30.06...I compared the .270 to the .308 and then to the 30.06..that is what the more than equal was about .......
and why not compare .30 cals to the sub .30 cals..that is what this thread is about ...some one requiring a .30 cal minimum.......

I reread your post and again I am merely pointing out that the 308 is not more than equal to the 30-06 as you stated above....similar, but not more than equal in any area.

I've read quite a few thread on this site where guys regularly that elk with a .243. I would however take an outfitters advice. For instance if he said most shot are gonna be 300yds. + I wouldn't use a .243.

Like I said U don't know how to comprehend what U read!!!!!

"the 270 surpasses the 308 at 500 yds and is more than equal to the 30.06 with a 150 gr bullet"

please tell me where I stated the .308 was more than equal to the 30.06???
I said the .270 surpasses the .308 and is more than equal to the 30.06 with a 150 grain bullet........I compared the .270 to the .308 and the 30.06 in the same sentence...meaning if all three where shootin a 150 grain bullet the .270 would surpass the .308 .......and be equal to the 30.06.......I'm sorry if U can't understand english!!!!

LOL, yes, poor sentence structure, I read it the same way you did Hurc, but after re-reading I see what Finn is saying. Finn gets agitated rather easily

The real lesson here, is never get involved in a gun/caliber debate online, it always ends the same way and its never good.

I know .....I just get so riled up when people come in here and try and tell others how to hunt deer and elk, especially elk, when they have really no idea what they are talking about... so many here are taken in by the ya gotta have a magnum bangnum to hunt mulies and a super kablooey magnum to hunt elk crowd.....and when I get riled I ferget what button to hit with what finger!!!!!!!!

Default The Outfitter sees all types

From the highly practiced and qualified, to the nimrod who never practiced shooting or can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Some people, you must know, have the great ability to earn the money for the hunting trip, but never specialized in the art of hunting.
