Most famous/best MT/ID/WY/CO elk areas?
Hi guys,
So, what areas are the best-known for big elk and backcountry treks? I' d like three or four areas where I can focus my search for good outfits. So far, I think the Gallatin NF in Montana might prove promising - any thoughts about that? Thanks!

Thorofare in WY is great for looking at grizz. You can see as many as 2 or 3 a day.
Used to be alot of elk in there but I rode in there the other day and all the elk have heard of my ruputation as a hunter and they all flew back to MT and took all the locals too.

I used to live in Colorado about 5 years ago. If I were to go back for elk hunting, I would look around Craig.
We spent our last 3 years hunting around Gunnison in the West Elk Wilderness, but I enjoyed going up north better.
