Instead of the freeze dried food, go to a surplus store or look online for MRE's. I used to be an infantryman in the army, and still use MRE's for my outings. They are light, compact (break down the meal by taking it out of the package and discarding the cardboard, you do not need it). Plus it has a water activated disposable heater.
