While not my first choice....... for stomping the woods of Alaska in search of moose and defending myself against anything else that comes along I' d take the 308 with Federal Premium High Energies in a scoped rifle over any blackpowder muzzleloader or a pistol.

I' d be hard put to argue with someone that lives there, does the hunting, and walks the walk as well as talks the talk. Yours is a valid vote for the gentleman above that I responded to.
I' ve got a TC .54 cal. inline muzzleloader that I' ve used for elk (nevermind the mighty moose or ole griz). I' d still take the 308 (though its FAR from my favorite) over the .54 for mere elk, but hey thats me (unless of course it makes it easier to get a tag!)
