Air mattresses are comfortable but can allow heat to escape. Either one will work, as long as you have something insulating you under the sleeping bag. I think it is more of a personal pref. I preferred the air mattress when I went and used a second sleeping bag under the one I was sleeping in for insulation.

Cot!!!!!! It is not as comfortable but it is a space saver and ease of use is great. Getting off the ground is the main concern. I good bag and you should stay warm.

Air mattress for me but if you don't have a way to inflate it you're screwed. I fined them to be better then a cot.

A cot with a Slumber Jack air mattress is what I use. Good luck.

Hands down cot! I used to use an air mattress then I realized why I was still getting cold. Switched to a cot and walla! Trust me go cot!

If you get one of the large cots that Slumberjack or Cabela's makes, you can store gear underneath it, and they are very comfortable. I used air mattesses for years, till I tried a cot. I think a cot is a much better way to go, more comfortable for a better night's sleep and you can store boots, etc, under it. I do put an extra blanket or even a foamy under my bag on the cot, and it stays very warm that way.

I'd buy the biggest, most heavy duty cot you can find. You won't be sorry you have it.

I like a cot better because it takes up less space and you can store your stuff under it.

If weight / space isn't an issue I think a cot would be great, but I love my Thermarest for backpacking.

The colder the ground gets, the more theair mattress is going to deflate during the night.... Also, if it gets poked by something, you're in trouble. I would lean towards a cot...
